Native American Shelter

So we are finishing up our "America Then and Now" unit with the kiddos presenting their Native American Shelters! They have done so well presenting to the class! You can tell they worked very hard on their projects and rehearsed their presentation! This is one proud teacher!!!

Fun Friday!

We had an absolute blast last Friday! Not only was it Halloween...but it was also Career Day! We got to learn about Police Officers, Pilots, EMT's, Doctors, and Bankers! After a fun filled career day, we ended our Halloween by making a Witches Brew! The kids loved it! We had a rat's tail, snake venom, blood, boiling water, and fish eyes to name a few ingredients! (Yarn, yellow food coloring, red food coloring, alka seltzer, oil) this is a must do every year on Halloween!

Oobleck!

This past week we did some pretty awesome science experiments! In order to understand the different states of matter, we made OOBLECK! This is just equal parts corn starch and water. (A little more corn starch or it will be too runny) This concoction acts as a solid and liquid. *Mind Blown* The kids absolutely loved it! First we read parts of Dr. Seuss' book Bartholemew and the Oobleck, and then we started our experiment! It was amazing to see the students' excitement and amazement!

2nd grade is hard work!

We have been working very hard in 2nd Grade! From using tongue twisters to help us learn about alliteration, to eating Pop Rocks to help us come up with similes, we have been having a blast! We are also learning about safe practices in the Science Lab along with the Scientific Process!!! Check out our pictures below!

Repeat Winners!

We did it again! Two times in a row, second grade has won the trophy at the Friday Celebration! We were chosen for working hard to stay on track with our behavior and academics! Way to go Second Grade!

Going to Outer Space

Today we went on an adventure to Outer Space!! Well, not really...but the kids still had fun. Since we are working on Place Value I decided to play a game to make it fun! I gave each person either a number represented by hundreds tens and ones, or the standard form of a number. They then had to find their partner that had the same number, but in a different form. Afterwards they were able to head over to the space ship!(chairs turned upside down in rows of 2) In order to board the ship they had to put themselves in numerical order. Least amount up front, greatest amount in the back! Once I checked their spots, they were able to board the space ship! We counted back from 30....then took off! We did this a few times for extra practice ordering numbers! This was a fun way to get the kids moving and understanding place value!

Miss Piggy has arrived!

We had a special delivery yesterday! The kids were so excited and they even got to name her! We voted and came up with some cute names! Daphney, Ribbit, and Hoppy were a few. After narrowing it down...the kiddos picked Miss Piggy.....really?? It's their class pet so I had little say in this matter. I myself liked Daphney, but I'm not the one taking it home over the weekend! Hopefully the kids will have a blast with her and she will serve as an incentive to make smart choices.

Remembering September 11th

Today in order to honor and remember those who lost their lives and those who lost loved ones in the September 11 attacks, the kiddos wrote letters to either a Police Officer or Fireman. I hand delivered their letters to the Bulverde Bexar Volunteer Fire Department and the Bulverde Police Department. The kids did a great job on their letters and it meant a lot to the Policemen and Firemen. We are also in the process of making a quilt with the other second grade classes to honor those who lost their lives. This was a really great project and I am so proud of the compassion our kids possess.

Making Math FUN

I was trying to come up with a fun way for them to review math vocabulary! Well I think they liked my idea! I wrote 1st grade terms on index cards and they had to hold it up to their forehead while their partner had to try to get them to guess their word! It was AWESOME!!!

Adjectives!!!

The kiddos were learning about adjectives and how to be a good citizen....so I figured why not combine them?? They made a poster about themselves, and used adjectives to describe them!! They loved it!

Library Mouse

Today we got to meet an author!! We read the story Library Mouse, and at the end of the story we realized the "mouse" had left us his tissue box from the book! The kids lit up when they looked inside the box and saw themselves in the mirror as the author! This activity really inspired my little authors!!!

Reward Buttons!

Here is a cute incentive I have for kiddos who make a 100 on their tests! They get to wear this button around for the day in hopes that someone will stop and ask them what they made on their test! My kids loved it so much last year I had to make more because so many were making 100's! :) Want to implement this in your classroom? You can get the button inserts at my TPT store.

Canvases Galore

So I was conned into buying a pack of 6 canvases. At the time I had no idea what to do with them...but for some reason I have been blessed with all of these cute ideas! Now..what to do with the other three...(I am uploading the pictures separately from my phone so lets see how this works..)

Second Grade Here I Come!

It's hard to believe that my three years at Martin have come to an end. I decided to change districts in order to be closer to my house. It is a very bitter sweet change because I will miss my Martin family like crazy, however I am beyond excited to start my new adventure as a Kinder Ranch Cowboy! I am now going to be teaching Second Grade! I am thrilled about this and cannot wait to get the year started! I have already started making stuff for my new class and campus! Here is a peek at a few things I've made! The first is my door sign, then I bought a mailbox for my kids to put parent notes/tardy slips in. :)

Clip Hall of Fame

In my class I have a behavior chart where my students can move up or down depending on behavior. If they get to the top (purple) they get a "diamond" added to their clip. Once they get 5 diamonds they get to retire their clip and hang it on the Clip Hall of Fame! Here's the cute sign I made for that!
